Dogs are smarter than cats! We can prove it.

Here is something that isn’t too surprising to us dog lovers.  An Oxford study charted the evolutionary history of the brain across different groups of mammals and decided dogs are smarter than cats.

Over millions of years, the intelligence of social animals – like man’s best friend – has improved at a greater rate than that of less extrovert creatures as they have to think more. In the study, researchers identified huge variations in how their brains have changed according to the study.

The brains of monkeys grew the most over time followed by horses, dolphins, camels and dogs, the researchers found. This shows that mammals with relatively bigger brains tend to live in stable social groups. The brains of more solitary mammals such as cats, deer and rhino, grew much more slowly during the same period.

Co-author Prof Robin Dunbar said: “It is interesting to see even animals that have contact with humans, like cats, have smaller brains than dogs because of their lack of sociality.”
