Today’s dog story is about a rescue dog that got a second chance and has never looked back.  Meet Murphy!  Murphy like many Border Collies was a little too much for his first owners handle, and he ended up as a stray.   Often times these dogs are chosen because they are so pretty and people know that they are smart, but those great traits are also their downfall.  Border Collies were bred to run after sheep for hours at a time, so unless you keep them entertained, they will entertain themselves and that can be a very bad thing.  Now we don’t know what exactly Murphy did to end up at the Clark County Humane Society in Wisconsin, but we do know that his story has a happy ending.  My friend Chris Andersen lost his long time pooch Riley and went looking for a new friend.  He found Murphy two years ago this week.  It was rough at first; Murphy wasn’t trusting and had little regard for the carpet, but a little housetraining, and some weekend fishing trips made Murphy a great dog.  Chris says that Murphy is a fantastic Frisbee player, can curl up into the smallest little ball and makes lots of weird dog groaning noises when he is excited and when he wakes up.   He can climb ladders too, and being a Border Collie, you might be able to train him in a trade like roofing or as a chimney sweep.  The bad part says owner Chris, “He uses me like a Kleenex for his wet nose and its terrible.”
