Police kill second dog in just over a week

For the second time in a little over a week, an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department has had to shoot and kill a dog that was attacking them.

Police say that a maintenance man was trying to help a woman who was being beat up by her boyfriend this afternoon, but found himself in trouble when two Pit Bull dogs started attacking him.

When police arrived at the apartment in the 13-hundred block of Potter Drive, the dogs went after them and the officers shot and killed one of the dogs in the hallway. The other dog was forced into the apartment and was seized by the Humane Society. Luckily no one was seriously injured. The woman’s boyfriend was arrested on charges of 3rd Degree Assault.

On July 31st CSPD officers shot and killed another Pit Bull they say came after them at a home on Shining Way while officers were on a “shots fired” call.

I understand that Pit Bulls can sometimes be mean if not raised correctly or have been mistreated but I don’t think there is any reason to shoot the dogs! I would rather see them tranquilized & taken someplace where they can have training to be better dogs.
