NEW YORK (AP) – A female terrier mix named Sunny rescued from a city pound in Houston will be the new Sandy in the Broadway revival of “Annie.”

Animal trainer William Berloni saw Sunny online, where she had been mislabeled as male and was 24 hours away from being euthanized. He adopted her sight unseen. Berloni uses shelter dogs in his projects and says they’re “not damaged, just unfortunate.”

”Annie” begins previews Oct. 3 and opens Nov. 8. Sunny’s story will be the subject of a TV special that will run on NBC in October.
