Melissa Lockhart faces charges in dragging death of dog

A second arrest has been made in the case of a Blue Heeler/German Shepherd mix dragged to his death last week in Colorado National Monument.

32-year old Melissa Lockhart of Fruita is accused of stealing the dog, named Buddy, and another dog from a pickup truck in Delta on December 29th.  “Buddy” was found dead with a rope around his neck early on December 30th , authorites believe that he had been dragged two miles.  Lockhart is the sister of 37-year old Steven Romero who is being held in the dragging death of the dog.

Romero was in court yesterday and the judge said the court would appoint him an attorney. Romero is being held without bond at the Mesa County Jail and will be back in court on the 7th.   Lockhart is free on a 5-thousand dollar bond.
