Sled dogs and their care, or lack of has been in the news a lot lately. The slaughter of 100 sled dogs in Canada has re-energized efforts by some animal activists to ban or boycott dog sled rides, a popular activity among tourists in many winter vacation spots, including here in Colorado.

The man accused in the abuse of nearly 100 sled dogs in Park County back in 2009 was sentenced in court today, and received the maximum jail sentence.
Last December Samuel Walker pleaded guilty to Felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty.

100 dogs were allegedly shot and killed in Vancouver after an expected post-Olympics boon in dogsledding business at an adventure company didn’t pan out. Most died instantly, but others suffered according to a former employee at the sled dog company .

A Florissant woman who was charged will 28 counts of animal cruelty, including felonies, made a plea agreement in court that some might think is, well, pretty easy.
Diane Walker will only serve two years probation on one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The District Attorney dropped all other 27 charges as part of the bargain.

Felony animal cruelty charges were filed today in Fairplay against the Park County couple accused of starving nearly a hundred of sled dogs.
A Park County Court Clerk tells us Samuel and Diane Ealker appeared in court today and they both face 28 counts…..including six for felony aggravated cruelty to an animal

The couple accused of starving dozens of their sled dogs at their Park County kennel appeared in court today.
